Ex Batt with a huge bum

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'd be really grateful for any thoughts or advice on this please.

Boo, one of my new ex-batts (came out on 29th December) is a big girl. She weighed 2.5 kg when we got her home on day one, whereas the others were 1.4kg - 2.1kg. She's bright and bouncy, eats and drinks well, and has started learning to dig and dust bathe. She lays most days and the eggs have strong shells.

But unlike her sisters or predecessors, her 'bum' is huge and over-hanging. Is this normal in some ex-batts, or possibly the sign of a problem? There's no sign of redness and it's firm to the touch. She shows no signs of distress when you touch it, and there's no sign of swelling further around her underneath to her abdomen. She just has a big, sticky-outy 'bum'.

Thanks to you for taking the time to read this.

Sorry no one has answered you yet.. must have missed it.

It looks pretty average big bum to me for ex bat.

As long as she is eating and acting normal AND laying then she should be fine.

Is she maybe more bald than the others and so you notice it more?

I have a big yun too and as it happens she always seems to have a big bum, she also used to lay the smallest eggs of them all.

Well done for noticing it is good to be aware of what is "normal" for each girl.

Always watch them, and their crops should be full at night, and at least mostly empty in the morning :)
