Just got one of these WIR's

Recommended Posts

Today i picked up one of these poultry runs http://www.gardenlife.biz/

I got the 3x3m version.

The plan is that i will fit a corrugated roof to it (instead of the mesh). Also will make a panel on the right side for the (cube green) to push up to. It will be placed in a sheltered spot of the garden and some shrubs etc planted around the front. I am hopeful it will look pretty good.

(Spoke to a lady at the edible garden show who was a breeder and she recommended one of these and said she had one.)

Anyone else got one or got any comments..? 8)

I bought one off ebay 4m x 4m and have butted my (cube green) run up to the side. I was told it would be fox proof but I think my cats would be able to chew through it though. I expected the wire to be flimsy as the price was only £299. I am going to buy some weld mesh to cover it and make a fox proof skirt. I have put a board accross the door to hinder thier escape as I go in. I only use it at the moment during the day and I shut the (cube green) run door just before if gets dark. Once it is fully fox roof I wont have to. On the whole I like it. A bit of work to get it how I want it but cheeper and larger than the omlet WIR. I may cover the top with clear tarp. I also intend to buy that screaning type stuff to put aong one side to give them more shade.

Yes it's just a standard pultry mesh, but as i am fitting a solid roof i will have spare mesh to use of the sides need 2 layers. We are lucky in that the whole thing will get wind and weather protection from a shed on one side and a fence on another.

My only concern was that it would look a little 'industrial' but i think when it's finished and i've planted around it should look suitably well placed.

Is it worth digging a bit of the mesh in the ground as a skirt? We haven't had any fox probs over the past 2 years which i am surprised about considering we are surrounded by arable fields.
