My Eglu Go with 2 metre run is due to be delivered in 2 days and I intend to set it up as a permanent run on hardwood chips (playground size). I've seen various depths mentioned, would 100 -125 mm be OK ?

 

It will have the Eglu cover only and will house 2 Light Sussex bantams and I'm wondering about a cleaning regime for the run.

 

I was thinking of putting Nettex ground sanatiser down first then the chips. Hosing the chips down say once per month followed by an application of Stalasan F to keep things sweet smelling.

 

I'm not sure how long to leave the chips before replacing them though.

 

Any advice would be gladly received.

If you can get hardwood chips then these are more robust and replacing every 3-6 months would be ok

 

the best thing to do is place the run on firm ground then fill with bedding, a couple of inches deep is fine, but if the run is on firm ground you can make it deeper. If you propose to place the chips down then add the run on top dont have the chips too deep or a fox could tunnel through the loose material quite easily

I'm leaving about 100mm between the edge of the skirt and the edge of the permanent run which is being constructed from 140mm deep decking.

 

I hope that is not too much space for a fox to operate in !
