I was very excited when one of my hens appropriated 6 eggs yesterday and sat on them for all the world like a proper broody! She did all the classic things- growled at me and ruffled her tail etc so I let her be and started the countdown. This morning she couldn't care less and two more eggs have been laid in the empty nest by other girls and I don't know which is which! Can I use these eggs or do I have to waste 8 eggs (sob!) ? Thank you to the experts....l

It depends how close it was to 24 hours. Are the eggs stone cold? If so it couldbe that she abandoned them late evening and they should be ok

 

Personally I would not eat them and certainly wouldn't give them away

 

You could scramble them up for the hens though

Oh dear, nearly an entire day's production lost due to a hormonally confused hen! That is the last time I will trust her! Thanks for your help.
