Troy
Hi there Leeloo, Never thought Id say this, but Id rather lice than these nasty mites!! At least you can see them AND any suspisions would fly out the window if youve come back inside and your itching up and down your arms! Then your certain its lice and one fell swoop with Ivermectin (not licensed for poultry use) usually does the trick . with...but these mites are doing my head in! Yep, doing everything I can ANH and still feel like its not enough. We are sooo clean and still !?
feleena4
Hiya Hope this helps.... My Gingernut had a bald red bum for several months and I tried vasoline (useless), sudocrem (less redness but still no feathers) and then I read somewhere that using 'flowers of sulphar' mixed with sudocrem/vasolene should help kill mites. Within weeks her feathers began to grow back and touch wood she has never had this problem since. I mixed it with vasolene and smeared her bald areas every few days. I ordered the flowers of sulphar from ebay and I believe it can be used in water too to treat sores/problem areas. Feleena
Troy
Thanks for that info. I have bought a cream that looks like its an oil based cream with Sulphur in it and its sold as a cream for scaly leg (johnsons) I have been using this every 2 or 3 days, but nothing seems to be helping the Millefleur. Maybe it has something to do with the sulphur strength, who knows. What you bought might be more concentrated? I'll have a look on ebay, so thanks again. Leeloo
I dusted her and the other one, as a precaution, with some carbaryl that I already had. I'll repeat it in 10 days and hope that works. I want to see her with pretty feathers, not all scruffy! The poor thing looks half bald when it rains. The Eprinex is sold in huge bottles since it is marketed towards cattle so I hope I won't have to resort to that!
Angie
This problem does seem to be going on and on this year . Does anyone know if it is a really bad year for crawlies ? My plight has been going on since late Feb and just doesn't get any better, the only thing i Know... it isn't NFM and red mites as i put my hands in the cube every few nights and stroke the girls for half an hour and i have never had anything on me. I scrub the cube weekly using poultry sheild in a pressure bottle and when dry dowse everything with DE. I have scrubbed the WIR and can't see any evidence of nasties. All my girls are still loosing their bum and tail feathers , some on there necks too.I have stood out with them for hours on end and know it isn't bullying. With help from a not too savvy vet we have done everything, DE all over and cube, shampoo, flowers of sulphur, spot on, Johnson mite spray , with recommended repeated treatments followed to the T....... The xeno drops (ivermectin) has arrived... which i have now. I have scrubbed the cube and used buz busters powder today. And put the drops onto the girls with crossed fingers. My girls are all still laying and seem perfectly healthy, i have not had any of the eggs myself due to treating for whatever is doing this to them. I ensure they get there greens and give calcium and protein to keep them going. The vet thinks they simply have lice despite having no feathers for the eggs to cluster onto,( i have not had any dirty bottoms either ) so this is my last attempt at the problem. After this i just don't know what else to do. ( they do not and have not had scaley leg.) The vet dared to suggest starting over a fresh.......i told him Over my dead body my girls aren't old yet ( 3 yrs)
happyhen_6
I was really glad to find this thread as I was running out of ideas on what to do and thought it was just me! All of my girls got bare bottoms last year in the summer. They had no obvious parasites and in themselves seemed happy and carried on laying every day. I suspected maybe one of my girls was the culprit but removing her has had no effect. The vets first suggested that they may be getting too warm in the eglu so the door was left open. As winter approached 3 girls feathered up beautifully. The last just hasn't. She lays eggs and is happy but has a bare bottom. Then a couple of weeks ago the others have started to lose feathers too and Tilly is now losing from round her neck. A return trip to the vet said again that there was 'nothing obvious wrong with them and as long as they were laying and happy let it be'. After reading this I have got the flea shampoo, ordered the flowers of sulphar and at least I'll feel like I'm doing something for them. Thanks.
