Mrs T
Hi Everyone Would like a bit of advice does anyone know anything about the breed Marsh Daisy, and how to tell if you have got one Not sure if our whizzy is one as she looks like the one I have seen in our book. We also had a disaster with our two new chickens, which we tried to introduce last weekend. One of the new ones attacked our two and made poor whizzy bleed, it was very upsetting, felt terrible for putting them in the eglu with Izzy and Whizzy, as they are so friendly, they where saying "please pick us up and cuddle us". Anyway the breeder took the new two back and Izzy and Whizzy are now back to normal, LOVELY! Although Whizzy has a little hole in her head, but it is healing. Hen Watch
My book says Marsh Daisy (Wheaten or Gold). Males are gold. Females are brown on top with pale cream breast. Doesn't help much though.
chocchick
The breed has existed in several colours, Black, Buff, White, Brown, Wheaten and Red Wheaten, although the first three are not seen now. All the colours have distinctive rose combs, whitish ear lobes and the green legs, so characteristic of the breed. http://www.norfolkrarebreedscentre.com/chickens.htm I've had a look but it seems to be a rare breed and the pictures are all cockerals There's one in a cage on the feathersite, but not very clear. You could try posting a picture on the practical poultry forum, and I'm sure people here would love a picture if you had one
chocchick
P.S. Poor Whizzy, I remember when we left Megan for 2 days without freeranging and she had a bald patch on her head with a tiny bit of blood Glad she's happier now.
Mrs T
Thanks for the replies. I have looked whizzy up in our book, but like you I can only find a picture on the internet of a cockerel. But in my book there is a lovely picture of a hen. Whizzy has got pale green legs and has 4 toes which apparently is a characteristic of the breed. She is a beautiful buff colour with amazing feathers around her neck and also black tail feathers. Her comb has not yet fully developed as she is about 16 weeks now. Fingers crossed she is one!!
