Debb11 Posted June 18, 2012 Share Posted June 18, 2012 Hi All I have just had some new chicks hatch and I noticed that one of them was scratching alot. Mum got dusted with DE last Thursday due to having a bad infestation of red mite in her nest and got placed in a clean home also dusted with DE. I would like to know if it's safe to dust her again as I know it's not safe to dust the chick, but if I dust mum, I'm bothered about it might not be good the the chicks being so young? I have also noticed that after when I've been around the hen house, i seem to have some very small grey like mite looking things crawling over my hands, what are they and how can I get rid of them? Redwing Posted June 18, 2012 Share Posted June 18, 2012 DE is fine around chicks so I would dust her again The small grey mites could be one of two things - red mites that havent fed or Northern fowl mite.
