Limp foot that she will not stand on.

Recommended Posts

I am looking after a friends Silkie Bantams and some weeks ago one has developed a limp. After a few days of feeling sorry for herself and some treatment for Scaly Leg (which it suffered from) she recovered and was fine. The limp has returned now and is much worse. She won't stand on that leg at all, the foot is curled closed and will not flex. It is hot to touch, but hangs limp when you carry her. There is no obvious injury or cut, she is happy for me to feel up and down the leg for breaks, of which there are none. I have treated her again for the scaly leg and isolated her in a dog cage with a bed of straw, she just hid in the green house and was lying on the concrete floor, unable to support herself upright, when left to her own devices. I was worried she wasn't getting enough calcium, but have made sure she has oyster shells available, I also dried and crushed egg shells and powdered them in her layers pellets and mixed corn. She has access to lots of greens, water and food and I am at a bit of a loss. I thought I would rub some arnica cream onto her leg tomorrow, which may relieve any bruising, but not cure the ailment, I would love some suggestions. Has anyone heard of this before or have any remedies?
