crackpot health question!

Recommended Posts

I am painfully aware that this enquiry might mark me out as the local loony, but here goes........

I have an old ex-batt who stopped laying over the winter and now appears to produce a very occasional egg (although it could equally be her sister!) She has always been a little frail. I have checked for all the usual non-egg laying causes and had just accepted that she is getting on a bit.

Lately, she has often looked a bit strange around the eyes and I just assumed that this was a symptom of general ill-health. Today, however, I noticed that it is only ONE EYE (!!!) that is looking strange (tiny pupil compared to the other one); the other looks normal.

Has anyone come across this before? Any suggestions?

Many thanks

last year I had a bantam that had an eye injury that I thought had healed, but it turned out

it had left an infection lurking in her eye & the only sign was a small pupil, and her rubbing the eye.

The vet said the pupil size was a pain response. so if your hen shows any irritation there it may be

worth a trip to the vet for some ab's. I also believe mareks can affect the pupil size, dont know

much about that though.
