good_egg
Viv, our RIRx has been looking like she should be laying for a while now, her comb is definitely red and growing daily. I've three times found soft/paper thin shells but with nothing in them. The first time was day 1 and I attributed it to Coco (our black rock) who I knew was laying, but she did then lay again that evening. The second one was at the weekend in the main body of the cube an the third is today in the run. I've been wondering if Viv has been snacking and today she has tell tale egg on her comb!!! Is this likely to be just because they are soft shelled or do I have a more serious issue on my hands? She has never eaten cocos and I have never seen evidence before but thinking she must have eaten the three I've mentioned and possibly more! good_egg
Feeling guilty now as looks like she is struggling with an egg or perhaps a bit of the last one!? Got her inside on a bottle so fingers crossed she has perked up in the morning.
sandyhas3chucks
no expert on posh hens and laying but unless it has gone really cold I would not have thought a bottle (assuming you meant hot) would be necessary or desirable at this time of year?????????????? I have new girl doing odd things... it does look to be normal ish????????????????????? (from reading other posts)
good_egg
We live in Scotland, it's always cold! But she did have bit of box without bottle and bit with and chose to curl up on the bottle. Think she was trying to pass a softie and had cramps so after reading lots of posts on here that seemed to be how to deal with. Probably over reacted but she was so sad looking and wouldnt stand up even when FR, just shuffled along with tail between legs and flopped dowm. Kept this up for 2 days, poor thing didn't perk up until we were due to go to the vet (typical). She is now right as rain, no sign of egg though, soft or otherwise, but she did have a very noisy tantrum when were cleaning the cube yesterday.
