2 eggs per day from one hen?

Recommended Posts

We've got 3 ex batts, one of which we've had since 2010. Recently we've been getting 3 eggs per day some days, and sometimes 2 eggs and a softie. We thought old Dora had started laying again, but could it be one of the new ones laying twice per day? If so, should we feed them something other than layers pellets to try and slow her down a bit?

you might like to try just feeding mixed corn... this is reported to slow them down..

never worked for me, but if you do have one non laying she will not be wanting or needing the layers feed which has higher rates of calcium added.

What I can report is that if you leave mixed corn out all the time they do not get over fat, do not end up with fatty livers(pms done on almost all my ex bats!) and the others do not over eat it once they are used to it being there.

There is a huge thread on PP forum on natural feeding...also many articles tell you hens will only eat what they need, this I can also confirm, my ex bats will not eat dried mealworms until they are full. will not eat sunflower hearts untill they are full. they seem to simply self regulate.

I am sure there are indivuduals that might differ, but would we know if that is because that particular girl needs a particular nutrient?????

BUT I am here to post about a young POL laying 2 or 3 in a 24 hour period...

just going to pm you save boring every one.
