dislaney
Hi - one of my girls has started laying eggs with fancy patterns this past week. They have a swirl (a bit like an ice cream cornet) at the pointy end, and occasionally looked engraved - one even had the letter R on it! I could upload a photo if someone can tell me how ... Anyway - is this normal? Or is something going wrong with Angela's innards? She has a good mixed diet with plenty of supplements. Thanks folks! stu
One of mine laid a similar egg this morning, but I have no idea why, or indeed who. I'm wondering if it's something I gave them to eat, but then I might expect to find more similar eggs..? None of the chickens seem to be ailing for anything, and they eat a good mix of fruit, beg and grains as well as their regular supply of pellets. I'd also be interested in any advice here, and apart from the overyly complicated biological things I seem to be finding online.
shemybelle
My Rhode Rock lays those kind of eggs. I haven't worried about it, but maybe I should...?! Lx
stu
I found this, which is helpful, and makes me worry less. Clickety Click
shemybelle
Thanks. My Rhode Rock's eggs are hard, just patterned. Strange! Lx
dislaney
Thanks for the article Stu - perhaps it's just a production blip, as suggested! Angela seems very well in herself, but she does have plenty of treats so I'm going to up the grit available to them and see if that does the trick. They've always got a grit bowl in there, but perhaps a new one wouldn't go amiss. One of my other girls was very poorly recently and the vet recommended Calsol (soluble calcium?) if she didn't pick up - she rallied very quickly so I didn't get the Calsol, but wondering now whether it might be a good idea ...
