Egg white not cooking properly

One of my chickens (I'm not sure which) has been laying neat little creamy coloured eggs which look very nice from the outside, but when I hard boil them, though the yolk goes hard, the white seems to remain a funny sort of translucent colour and semi soft consistency. It is rather putting me off my girls' lovely eggs. :vom: Does anyone know what might cause this? The eggs in question were about 1 week old, no more.
