Aphids on house plants?

Recommended Posts

I have two plants in my room at uni, sat on the windowsill. One has green leaves with red underneath, but I don't know what that's called, it seems clear of aphids anyway. I also bought with me a parsley plant (for kitchen uses! :) ) which seems to be suffering. I noticed some of the leaves were going brown, but today I discovered why. The young shoots on it are absolutely covered in aphids.

How can I get rid of them? Preferably without harming the plant and without buying any sort of spray just for this tiny plant :) I imagine it already had aphids when I brought it with me from home.

With a kitchen plant, my first resort would always be to wash the little blighters off - fill the sink with cool (room temperature) water with a drop of washing up liquid, immerse the plant and agitate the leaves and stems gently. It always amazes me how many float off!

Be careful not to wash all the soil out of the pot, but as long as there isn't gallons of detergent in the water, it shouldn't do the plant any harm.
