Vomiting chicken

Recommended Posts

Can anyone help with this?

My ancient ex-batt Henny has been a bit off colour for a couple of days, not really eating but drinking a fair bit. This happened a couple of weeks ago but she picked up again.

Today however she brought up a small puddle of clearish liquid.

Could this be sour crop, or does anyone else have any suggestions? (I haven't checked her crop, she is tucked up in bed so I will check tomorrow).

Many thanks!

Lynne

Sour crop will produce a brown, foul smelling liquid and the crop will feel really squishy. I would check your hen as soon as you can to be honest, as if it is sour crop you will need to start treating it ASAP.

On the other hand, I have also dashed out to check my hens over on several occasions when I have seen liquid coming out of their beaks, only to find they must have drunk too much and it's 'overflowed'

But definitely go and check - much better to be safe than sorry!

Hi I once had a hen with sour crop! Not nice!!

If it is sour crop she will be off food, she may drink but only sips and her crop will feel very squishy. To help mine i Had to make her vomit by holding her under one arm with her bum in the air while massaging her crop she will then start to vomit, be warned you may need a mask :? After you have done this feed a few tablespoons of natural yogurt and put some poultry apple cider vinegar into their water. Do this over 3 days and keeping checking her crop, you may need to help her vomit a few times! This worked for me, hope it helps you x

Thank you for your help. I don't think it is sour crop, the liquid was nearly clear and not at all smelly. Her crop is firm, it's not hugely full but it is firm.

Maybe she just had drunk too much!

She seems ok, quite perky, still liking mealworms (when I lost my other two that was the first sign, going off mealworms) although not eating a huge amount.

I suspect she is on the gradual downhill path, but I am keeping a close eye on her.

Thanks again.
