Odd Behaviour

Recommended Posts

Mabel is going through her moult which is very aggressive. She has lost her tail feathers and is looking very bare bless her, we had a fox jump on the eglu the other week and in the melee she banged her comb and made it bleed but since she has been moulting for the last couple of days she is walking gingerly around almost unbalanced, she is not falling over or anything but she is walking one leg crossing the other maybe she has always done this and I just have not noticed but she is eating and drinking okay but normally she is up and at them.Is it the moult taking more out of her or this is the bit I am dreading the bang on the head. She was spooked by the fox but didnt have any issues as far as I could see ant replys would stop me worrying I am feeding them Omlet feed and they have the Nettex tonic with seaweed in their glug, is there anything else I can give to help her get through it.

Martin :D

Sorry to hear about Mabel. A heavy moult can really take it out of them, so it could be that. Nettex have a product called Total Moulting Solutions which might be worth a try as it is more specific than the tonic.

I doubt that the bang on the head is the problem - I think it would have had a much more immediate and severe effect on her.

The unsteadiness is a worry - particularly if you read The Dogmother's post re Marek's in the chicken section today - so a trip to the vet might be a good idea.

Hi Tweety

Bought some Total Moulting Solution yesterday and have started her on that she seems ok at the moment .

I hope its not Mareks she is tucking in to her mash and have dipped bread into a diluted solution as well for her and that has been wolfed down so She seemed a lot better last night when they came in the house a bit more like herself jumped up on the settee made herself comfy and went to sleep so I will keep an eye on her and see. Thanks :D

well Mabel seems back to normal she has been eating and drinking and wolfing down the bread I dipped in the solution she came hacking across the garden when I went out.

She has also been putting hattie in her place chasing her off when it was time for mash so it looks as if its working just trying to keep her from stressing. :D
