chicken has diarrohoea

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Well we had it lucky for the first 6 weeks of chicken keeping but hit our first hurdle today, one of the girls has diaorrhoea, not sure which one? 2 were laying although one seems to have stopped yesterday. Just let them all out for an hours free range & one of them did seem a bit quieter than normal, but I had thought she was the one that laid this morning?

All 3 are hybrids sold as POL. Do you need any more info to advise? Shall I do something pro-actively now or just watch & wait?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Worms can cause diarrhoea so you could worm them all with flubenvet as a precaution. I also find that if they have eaten too many snails etc or have eaten too much s"Ooops, word censored!"s it can cause diarrhoea but doesn't last long so is not always a big issue. If you think she looks under the weather you could give her some tonic and watch her over the next couple of days to see if she looks like she is ill but it doesn't seem like it is anything major to worry about.
