Integrating chick & mum back

Recommended Posts

Have a 14 week old and it's mother in a run adjacent to our other run containing 4 hybrids. We intend eventually to open the communicating panel between the runs to allow for integration.

At what age should we introduce the chick and its mother back to the flock. When the mother fr with the others she is the top hen and all defer to her. We haven't fr the chick as she is too flighty and would like as not be over the fences and off.

We intend to worm the pair with some marriages layers pellet, what age can the chick have a week of layers with flubenvet?

Thanks

the chick needs to be on growers untill its about 18 weeks old a lot of folk on here like to wait untill they start to lay.

also the chick/grower needs to be able to stand up for it's self at 14 weeks old 'mom' isn't going toi defend it for much longer and might even be the one to lay down the law and start to 'knock' the grower about.all that said if your group accept the grower then you can put them all on growers feed until the chick is about 20-23 weeks old or laying it won't do the older birds any harm if they are laying then the egg yolk is a bit pale.

I tend to let the broody make the move to go back in with the rest of the group

Thanks for the info, will see how she stands up to the others, most of whom are insome stage of moulting so may be a bit more receptive?

if they are anything like mine (a few of my lot have been really narky this moult )then I'd wait untill they are nearly finnished with the moult.
