missusmac
As a new owner, I've been checking the nest box of my classic hopefully every day since Christmas, which was probably about the earliest any of my three were likely to start laying. Came home from work today late and the girls were already in bed by the time I checked on them. I was delighted to shine the torch in and see my very first egg ever My question is - who dunnit? As I wasn't here today, I wasn't able to see who was up to what. My money is on Mathilda who has always been the biggest of the three and has seemed to mature the fastest. I haven't noticed the ' crouching' people have mentioned on here but, yesterday, she was running up and down the run and then popping into the nest box for a few minutes which she kept repeating. I think that is another sign? How do you tell for sure? I enjoyed a delicious, if somewhat small, egg for my tea!
daxigirl
Does she shout a fair bit? I find they get quite loud and talkative and a bit pecky at the others in the build up to egg day. It probably was her if she kept popping in the box. I'm very pleased for you, the others won't be far behind. I still check the box umpteen times a day 2 years later.
