Strange feeding behaviour

Recommended Posts

Rosie, one of my three hybrids, has developed worrying feeding behaviour. She dashes out of the coop with the others, but instead of eating the pellets, pecks frantically at the ground in two or three areas. There's nothing to be seen but as the other two do the same obviously there are Insects or eggs etc there, but they do eat the pellets as well. Rosie now has diarrhoea and is getting thin, but still lays every day.

I am trying to worm them, but three days on I wonder if Rosie is getting enough of the pellets so am hand feeding her a little seeded bread or pasta with a trace of Flubenbet.

Six month's ago as a pullet, she was very ill and wouldn't eat or drink so I isolated her and hand fed her every two hours. She recovered well after 10 days, but she is slower than the others and doesn't seem to see food such as corn, unless it is piled up, she just peers and pecks aimlessly whilst the others eat the lot.

I just wondered if anyone has anyone has noticed similar behaviour.

How odd. The first thing I wondered was whether or not there's something wrong with her sight... Or... do the others bully her at all, particularly when there's food around, so that she's reluctant to join them at the feeder?

I hope someone can shed light on this for you.
