pianogirl79
Hello, Our 2.5 year old sussex has had stinky runny poos for a few weeks, stopped laying and just seems generally a bit under the weather. She's had a course of Baytril antibiotics which don't seem to have improved anything and the poo sample the vet took has come back saying she has giardia.... The vet has given me some panacur to tackle the giardia but she didn't seem too hopeful if this doesn't work... Does anyone have any experience of treating this in their chooks? Hoping her chances of beating this are good! (Especially as hubby is not chuffed about the three figure vet bill!!!) We just have one other chook at the moment - an ex batt who is in great health and seemingly uninfected by the giardia, but I'm getting another 3 ex-batts next week - can I do anything to reduce their chances of picking up giardia? Any advice much appreciated! Thanks
Redwing
I would have thought the Panacur should work, follow the instructions to the letter though Once the panacur treatment is all over I would follow it with a probiotic or charcoal supplement as their digestive system will have been knocked about by the antibiotics and the wormer
pianogirl79
Thanks for the response Redwing... She's had her first dose today of Panacur and (I'm not sure if it can even work that quick!) but already she seems a bit spritelier so fingers crossed....
