Ex batts with worms issue

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I collected 4 ex batts on Sunday. I have them in there own coop and run inside a shared pen with my other hens obviously not mixing together and won't be for a while but they are just looking at each other.

I started worming my other hens last Thursday as it was due and started worming the ex batts when they came on Sunday. Today I saw worms in fresh poo from the ex batts. This is in the shared pen while the other girls are free ranging away from them. The ex batts get to dust bathe then etc.

My questions are these worms looked huge like spaghetti, are they dangerous once out of the chicken? Would they eat them? Is it ok for my original girls to be in the same area where they have been?

I have been mixing 6g of flubenvet with 2kg of food with my chickens, obviously on separate mixes as they are on ex batt crumbs. I'm making up more 2kg feeds once they are finished as its 7 days, hoping this is right.

Are they infectious to other chickens?

Any advice would be great, it's tricky to get this all down as its separate flocks and I have them all on the wormer, dusting them in the mite powder, garlic in the water etc trying to get them all in great condition. All hens laying, ex batts too, 4 eggs today. I realise worms are very dangerous to hens and bless them they are all in such bad condition I don't like to think of them poorly. Was going to call the bhwt but they are closed till the morning and I'll sit here worrying about them tonight. :(

It's good you areworming them with flubenvet. Sounds like they desperately need it. Yes, live worms and their eggs are infectious. I'd pick them and any poo up with gloves as regularly as possible and dispose of it away from the garden. I'd also apply a ground sanitiser, such as Stalosan F, liberally.
