duncan4
Up until recently the girls have been shut in until hubby had put the roof on the run, now the run is done I havn't been shutting their pop hole at night and they have been coming out in the mornings about 5ish, Friday morning they were out and all quiet, Saturday morning they were sqwaking really loudly so much so I had to go out to them to keep them quiet, I also picked up some eggs around 7 o'clock, so last night I shut the pop hole, 5.30 this morning they were off again, it was the i've laid an egg all, I didn't go and let them out I tried to ignore it, it went for about 5/10minutes, also in the meantime a neighbour shouted out shut up out of their window, then all was quiet till about 6.50 when I went to let them out and yep there were 2 eggs. Have I disturbed there body clock by letting them let themselves out in the morning?? Do I from now on keep the pop hole shut?? Do I try and blackout the vents???. T he last thing I want to do is have complaints . Any advice would be appreciated
Jenthelibrarian
I think my very first post on here was about noise My set up a chorus the next day after they arrived and, to our immense surprise, they were not being murdered - we had an egg We do tend now to shut their door once they've gone in to roost, quite early in the winter for warmth and at our bedtime in the summer to give them some air as late as possible. I wouldn't block their air vents. They get let out when we get up, but we give them, our neighbours and ourselves a lie-in at weekends and don't let them out before 8.00am on Saturdays and Sundays. We have never had a complaint about noise, although I think they can sound awful. The [very helpful] small-holding where we bought our girls made a point of telling us that they would not suffer from being left shut in and would learn to expect us when they saw us. Their egg-laying time will not be fixed, they're supposed to move up about an hour a day. [Mine haven't read that book ] If our chooks set up a racket during the day I tend to have a quick look out of the window to be on the safe side and if it's just the 'egg song' I ignore them. They manage perfectly well if we are both at work or everyone's out They will learn very, very quickly if you go out and give them attention and treats when they're noisy.
