Pro - Does anyone else's nest boxes get soaked in rain?

We have 6 ex bats. Had them for a week & a half. No break with the egg supply until the last couple of days. Just 1 or 2 eggs per day if we're lucky.

 

Then my boyfriend caught one pecking one! He was in such a rush to get the egg that he didn't notice which chicken but I've just carried out my own experiment and only one went RUNNING towards the egg...Luigi. Named after her love of food funnily enough.

 

So... what do we do? I might section her off first thing in the morning. The girls tend to lay between 7 & 9 but that's only a short term fix.

 

Any advice will be gratefully received!

I have heard of people smearing eggs with mustard, the hen learns its yucky and stops going for eggs (with any luck). Good luck, its an annoying problem to have... cheeky Mrs

Lungi eats EVERYTHING! I'll try mustard (thank you!) but I bet she ends up loving the taste!

Are the eggs thin shelled?

 

Mine will eat (particularly the yolk of) any egg that gets broken in the nestbox. This has happened recently because Louise is getting on.

They don't bother if an egg is whole.

Bit of both. Some are thin, some thick. We have rubber eggs in the next boxes now. Hoping they snap out of it!
