Topsy147
I have a Warren hen which I got at POL in July 2011. Just lately she has been laying misshapen eggs interspersed with a couple of jelly like ones and a normal one(least I think they were hers). I have 3 other hens, two of which are laying normal eggs (the 4th is not yet at POL). What could be causing this? I feed layers pellets, provide oyster grit and sometimes add poultry drink or cider vinegar to the water. I sometimes give a treat of dried corn or mealworms. Olly
She's just reaching the end of her laying life - the 'hennopause', if you like. She could go on laying, or she may stop altogether - you might be able to strengthen up the shells by feeding grit or calcium additive, but my guess would be that laying will be intermittent and then tail off. Lulabellx1
We have an ex-bat laying eggs exactly the same. They were 18 months when we got them so she must be about 2 and a half. Hers are really long and have the same strange bit at the top. I have noticed we only get one from her every 3-4 days... we have recently added 3 new POL hens to our brood so they can do the egg-laying from now on and Zombie-chicken can happily retire at Cluckingham Palace
