Goldie
Hello - quick question about the use of Methionine in chicken food - I'm changing feed as my usual layers pellet (unbranded from the pet shop) has gone up in price. I've the option of Heygates which is very cheap (£7.70 for 20kg), but contains methionine, or Allen & Page pellets which doesn't mention it? They are a little more expensive (about £10) but not too bad. Not sure if the methionine, which a bit of reading around tells me that chickens need, is a no-no or if it's ok? We're not too bothered about organic classifications or anything (the tasty eggs is enough for us) but would rather not be eating a number of different chemicals if possible. Please shed a bit of light on it and if you would or wouldn't worry about it!? Thanks, Goldie
Angie
It is a protein based amino acid that helps in metabolic functions and the break down of heavy metals in the liver, essential for nails hair etc in us humans so must be good for feathers etc in chickens.
