Methionine in feed

Recommended Posts

Hello - quick question about the use of Methionine in chicken food - I'm changing feed as my usual layers pellet (unbranded from the pet shop) has gone up in price.

I've the option of Heygates which is very cheap (£7.70 for 20kg), but contains methionine, or Allen & Page pellets which doesn't mention it? They are a little more expensive (about £10) but not too bad.

Not sure if the methionine, which a bit of reading around tells me that chickens need, is a no-no or if it's ok?

We're not too bothered about organic classifications or anything (the tasty eggs is enough for us) but would rather not be eating a number of different chemicals if possible.

Please shed a bit of light on it and if you would or wouldn't worry about it!?

Thanks, Goldie
