daxigirl
So finally gave in to Persil and bought her 6 silkie (partridge) bantams to sit on, talk about determined broody. She's already done one hatching this year. Should be hatching Fri/Sat, very excited, lost all 3 of my silkies this year so delighted at the thought of more. Read about a rounded egg being female and pointy eggs being male going by that I'm working on them all being female. Hopeless with the magnet so thought it would be worth a try. Although it will be a while before I can confirm this with them being Silkies.

daxigirl
Looks like all 6 are safely out. Didn't like to disturb her too much just enough to have a quick shifty and take the shells. Will have a better look in morning when she moves to the green house.
daxigirl
Absolutely gutted, 1 has vanished. I can only think it's got out the bars at the back of the run and been on the outside and wandered off or the bl**** neighbourhood cats have found it. Searched all evening when I came home from work, nothing. Persil has some blood on her face and was rather antsy when I came home and I didn't put two and two together till I was having a squish and checking them over. The run is in the greenhouse so the cat must have been loitering (he's called Simon grrrr will be chasing him energetically in future) as he does. Did a lot of loud muttering about peoples cats for the benefit of the neighbours.
miller30
Oh dear they can squeeze through the smallest gabs she may have hurt her face on the bars as she would have tried to protect the baby even if she couldn't get out what a bloody name for a cat simon that bit did make me chuckle

daxigirl
Not just yet, Persil is still holding on to them and has no inclination to return to her big girls gang. They're no trouble at mo.

daxigirl
Persil has decided to abandon her brood this afternoon and return to the bigirls gang. All quite sudden and out of the blue but she liked the look of the mealworms and nibblets on offer more than her children. She was then off to the dust bath, checked out the , had a welcome back peck on the back from her sister and that was that. Broodiness finally over with.
