Emma57
Hello everyone. I recently acquired three hens, just over 3 weeks ago. None of them are yet laying, although I know they are all in lay. I'm just assuming they are still settling in. However, the Barnvelder X, who insists on sleeping in one particular nest box rather than on a perch with the other two, has just started producing droppings that are brown with pastel-pink tips?? Should I be concerned? She seems to be in good general health, although the feathers round her vent are a little dirty- I just assume that's from sleeping in a nest box. They're all fed layers pellets, corn in the PM, occasional treat of kale or carrot tops. Any help much appreciated, thanks x
igobarefoot
That sounds very pretty! I can't help much though I'm afraid, not something I've come across, but didn't want to just read and run. I would say it sounds like nothing to worry about, but I'll leave it to someone else with more experience to comment further. Worming them would be a good thing to do though, just to be on the safe side.
Egluntyne
They often produce coral coloured urates. Nothing to worry about.
Emma57
Thank you everyone, feeling a bit more at ease now! Guess I'm probably on the look out for reasons why they may not be laying, but if these different colours are normal, I think I shall just keep waiting with bated breath for eggs!
