auntielizzie
This is the second time this has happened, the first time being quite a few weeks ago. This morning when I went out to the girlies, Bessie was stood bolt upright and not moving very comfortably. On closer inspection she had what I can only guess was a bit of a prolapse. She had a lump of "stuff" sticking out of her vent. It was pink and squishy (the size of a small egg) and her botty was "pulsing"; also it seemed to be a bit "dribbly". I managed to pick her up and with a little bit of gentle pushing with one finger and Bessie helping by "sucking it back in", it went back to normal. Should I be worried? Will this possibly get worse? She is about 2 years old and a Black Rock type hybrid. She is a very reliable layer of one very large egg every day. I expect it's a case of wait and see, but wondered whether this was the beginning of a major problem perhaps. Anyone else with a similar experience? Thanks for any advice. miller30
Hi sometimes you can cure a prolapse you need to make sure if it does happen again the other chickens don't peck at it before you let them out. You have done the right thing by putting it back put a syringe full of runny honey into her vent a couple of times aday for a day or so the suger helpS the swelling go down and shrink the prolapse it may pop out again when she lays if it does you can also try putting her in the dark for a couple of days and stopping her layer pellets so she will stop laying and give it time to rest leanne
