Debby In France
Something weird has just started happening, We have 3 hens who are about 4 years old now. We have not changed their food - infact they are half way through the current sack. The Cube looks normal - no nasty visitors. We use straw in the nest which (due to the fact we live in France and it's pretty warm at the moment 38c) we haven't changed in the last couple of weeks. However, in the last 3 days they have started laying what look like "old eggs". We tend to have poached egg for breakfast and when we drop them in the water we usually notice how beautifully they stay together. The yolks are normally orange and the white clumps together. Now they don't ! The yolk literally floats away from the white. The yolk is pale and very unhappy. It seems to be happening to all of them although some days we get only 1 or 2 eggs. Could our girls be getting old ? Has anyone ever encountered this before or does anyone have any suggestions ?
