Chuckyegg
Hi My two new Speckledy Hens arrived yesterday and are lovely! and huge! - especially compared to my Bantam girlies! After a bit of pecking and chasing all seems well.. so far.... they are all huddled together in the cube now. I hope it continues this way - the Bantams are definately boss - well Buttercup is anyway, but there has been no fighting....yet!!! Hopefully they will live together happily ... and my hubby wil get that Omlet I've promised him!!! Thanks for all the pics of Speckledy's they are lovely arent they - must post some of my Wyandotte Bantams soon too - also cute and lovely. The Bantam of the Opera
I wish mine had worked out that beautifully. I statrted off with two rhode island reds who were rescued from the farm i worked on and they lvoed free ranging then i got my eglu and wanted some more chikens so i got 3 bantams but my reds just attacked them very viscously. Im fairly sure it was more serious than a pecking order. So i just had to get another house for the reds to live in seperately because i couldnt bear to send any of them back. sebowyer
I tried to introduce two very small bantams to four established RIRs. To my surprise, the bantams terrorised the much larger hens, eventually setting up home in the nestbox and attacking any of the RIRs who tried to lay! The bantams had a forced early retirement to a nearby large farm where they tried to beat up the cows...

The Bantam of the Opera
aww i wish mine were that fiesty, bella just stood there whilst herro pecked her face, she didnt movve at all, i had to shut her back in the run once i realised that there wasnt going to be a peckign order established, herro was just going to peck her until she died or seomthing. horried hcicken. however, my bantams are so gentle and sweet that it meant when i had to take my cvockeral lucisu back the other day and introduced a new girly to them they were fine with ehr and withint 10 mins of meeting they were running aroudn together happily. it was so perfect.
