CrazyDaizy
Hia Everyone. Our Chooks dont seem to be that bothered about their layers pellets, especially when they are roaming free range all day. The Rabbit seems to eat them more than the chooks do, and bunny is getting a bit of a porker! Anyone else have this problem (assuming they have a rabbit of course) I might have to remove the layers pellets feeders when the hens are free range, so the bunny doesnt eat them. Janty
You could leave your girls in their run until mid day and then let them out. This way you could make sure that they were having their pellets and when you let them out you could remove the feeders to ensure that the bunny stays trim. My girls were not interested in their food once I let them out to free range so I just kept them in for a bit until they had finished scoffing and then I let them out...or at least that's what I used to do before the bird flu struck. When I start work soon they will get more time in their run so they will have to eat their layers pellets
Guest
Chickens can get all the vitamins and minerals they need to live and produce eggs just from free ranging! I would continue to provide access to both layers pellets and water all day, so that they can choose to eat if they need to. Also try feeding them some other stuff occasionally for variety such as mixed corn, sweet corn, raisins etc.
