Guest
i think red mite is more prevelant in the warmer months but we dust our chooks about once a month to be on the safe side and also sprinkle some powder in their coop/nest boxes when it gets cleaned out (also about once a month). Also keep an eye out for red spots on roosting bars and any reluctance by your chickens to go into their coop at night. We only got our girls in october so haven't experienced red mite so far, fingers x'd.
puffball
We had red mite a while ago-we didn't research diseases. As Poet said red mite is more common is the warmer months so during winter I would only dust them once if you think it is necessary. Hope that helps
