We've had our four bantums for about a month now, we move the cube and run about twice a week. There is still alot of poo where they've been even after a few days.

What do other people do who have them free range or in a run to disperse the poo. My children seem to constantly be treading in it and then coming inside, nice!!!

Maybe they'd be better in one place with bedding so I could just muck them out every week?

I was going to move mine around the garden but as we only have a small garden anyway we'd soon run out of grass for them, so I've opted into just keeping them in one place now, which is a fairly sheltered part of the garden under a tree and up against a fence for extra dryness :D

I am going to hand pick some grass for them now, as they don't have any where they are

In Summer I move the eglu regularily and blast the grass with the hosepipe and the poo disappears.

This winter I can't do that (soggy ground). So I put Auboise (or Hemcore) all over the grass in the run (about 1 inch deep). Buy it from horse supply shops about £9 a bale. Then monthly I change it over for fresh stuff and put old stuff in compost. Auboise soaks up poos really well. Though I have to keep run covered and dry with a shower curtain.

As for the free ranging poos, I'm afraid it's a shovel and bucket job.....

I clean up the poo from the grass and patio with a garden trowl (sp?), but they only have unrestricted access to the garden at weekends when someone is at home so theres not a massive amount with only 2 chickens. When they have the squits I use a bucket of water.

In the week we keep them in a corner of the garden with chicken netting, we only go into that part of the garden on chicken related business. As long as it rains once a week there never seems to be too much poo around, though if my daughter goes over the netting her feet seem attracted to it!

Using an absorbent bedding will help control things in your run. A few weeks ago we bought something called super zorb (I think that's the name) and are using it in the nesting box and droppings tray at the moment. Before the Eglu was a smelly mess after 3 days but after a week and a half the only part that needs cleaning is the bars. When this awful weather has passed I'm going to change the chipped bark in the run for superzorb.
