moochoo
Hi, congratulations on your new arrivals Unfortunately, chickens poo - a lot. They're not always sloppy, they do firm up once they've settled but still there's a lot of it. As far as I can work out you could either just hose them away on a daily basis or you could put something absorbant down like Hemcore which you can purchase from an equestrian or country type store. This can be shovelled up every 4 - 8 weeks and put in the compost bin. Don't let it put you off them, you'll soon get a poo routine
Egluntyne
That is right. There is lots of info about this on the forum. I use Aubiose, which is similar to Hemcore, and it does the job beautifully. You can get it from equestrian shops for about £8 a bale. The hens love to scratch about in it! peanut12
I use Medibed which is dust-removed straw with medicated ingredients that cut down amonia smells etc. It's very absorbent - my garden was on the verge of being a swimming pool until I changed to his and now it's good and firm. Also about £8-9 bale of 25kg
