Guest Posted February 25, 2008 Share Posted February 25, 2008 DD1 worked in the library. TBH, I was quite disappointed with it, although the library was great and she was a good worker there. But it is closed on Mondays and Wednesday afternoons and they didn't want her on Saturday, so the experience of a week's work wasn't very realistic. DD2 worked in an opticians and had a good time. I'm not sure she was shown as much experience as she was promised, but they made good use of her. They were both advised that WE isn't about experiencing a career you might be interested in, it's just about experiencing work so it doesn't matter where you go. Boris70 Posted February 25, 2008 Share Posted February 25, 2008 I did my work experience in a primary school - as I wanted to be a teacher. I went to university and studied Biochemistry as I wanted to teach secondary school science..... but I didn't that far. I graduated and then went to work for a pharmaceutical company doing Biochemitry, but I haven;t lost my school contact. I've organised it with my work that we take about 5 students at a go, doing a range of things from paperwork, working in the warehouse to being in the labs doing science. The only downside is the supervison - constant supervison of the youngsters makes it very difficult to do anything of your normal job - oh - that and the risk assessments you have to do for each student you have! Oh - and so I can be a teacher too - I run tours of the facility for local schools where they learn about the pharmaceutical industry, chemistry and microbiology - It's great fun!
