Older cat toilet issues

Recommended Posts

afternoon one & All

i wonder if anyone has any ideas for my older cat,  about 2 years ago he started poohing in unwanted areas, top of landing, front room mat, bathroom floor.  it was only very rarely & though he was getting caught short after waking from a nap.   it has slowly got worse.  he now seems to only pooh everywhere in the house. on the stairs, hallways, kitchen floor, beds, any mats.  never in a litter tray. he is only feed dried food & exactly the same make / flavour since i have had him ( 5years )  so thankfully the output is solid to clear up.  he has 2 litter trays one up stairs, one down stairs.  he will only wee in the litter trays.  these are cleared nearly the moment he has been if home , but cleaned the moment home if been out.  the carpeted areas are cleaned with a pet shampoo so as not to have the smell to think this is now the toilet, solid floors are washed.   been to the vet & told he is getting old & he is likely to be not reading the massages about needing the loo, but it is only pooh he messes with & thought it would be both Pooh & Wee if that was the case.?

Can anyone come up with any ideas how i can help him go in his litter trays & not all around the house.   he is a house cat, hates being outside, but this was his choice not mine as have a cat flap if he wanted.

thank you
