Does the door have to be shut at night in warmer weather if chickens are in a secure pen?

No it doesn't. We leave ours open in warmer weather, but because some of the runs are not rat proof we have to fit a mesh door in place. The big advantage of leaving the door open in Summer is not having to get up early or go to bed late due to opening and closing it. Not so bad down here as we have over an hour less daylight in Summer than England (and over an hour more in Winter of course).
