In this intense heat wave, how should I keep my pet chickens from overheating? They have a run in the shade under a big tree. But is there anything else I can do?

Hose the run down in the afternoon. The moisture will evaporate and cool the ground and the air. An overheating chicken can be treated by standing it in a bowl of cool water, not freezing cold, so about 15C. The blood flowing through the feet will chill the rest of her system. Takes a couple of minutes, then consider bringing her into a cool environment. Ours come into cages in the house and are kept in overnight, or until the coop temperature has dropped to below 30C.
