The Pearsons
I hatched chicks last year. The broody went into a seperate box along with the eggs just a week or so before the "due date". gives you an idea of my Heath Robinson set up. the green enclosure is the maternity wing. It was summer and warn so the broody went into a small pet box. This time of year they would need more protection from the cold I think. I now have a spare eglu in case I get a broody this year as well.
debbie26pet
im thinkin about one of them broody boxes and a rabbit run would that be ok in my coop? was thinking getting 2-4 eggs for her
bronze
I only let mine hatch so early in the year because I had a spare eglu and they are fab for staying warm enough. I wouldnt have done it if I could only use the hutch. I may use the hutch later in the year though. She will need a seperate run for when the chick hatches unless they all free range all the time. Oh and beware she may refuse to sit on the eggs in another box straight away so you may have to move her in stages (speaks the voice of experience)
The Pearsons
I had 6 eggs under my broody and she hatched three. Two of the chicks survived and are now laying hens.
