AliA
Hi, My chickens arrived yesterday, 2 big girls and a pekin bantam. The Pekin is being picked on by the two bigger hens ie they chase her and nip her at any opportunity. Subsequently, she is always on her own. Will these bullying tactics stop, or should I be doing something to help her. Also, they will not use the ladder in the cube and last night I had to put them to bed myself. Do I leave them to it or carry on putting them in the cube. Thanks from a very distressed new mummy
superjules
Give her some areas where only she can get to so that she can get some respite if the big ones pick on her too much. I used canes to give mine a section of the run which was small enough that the big girls couldn't get into. The bantams also had their own house that the big girls couldn't fit through the door. Also, although this is a bit late for you now, I would recommend having at least as many bantams as big girls so that she is not such an obvious target. Good luck.
