New2this
Hi All, Whilst picturing my new chooks soon to arrive around my garden , I suddenly noticed for the first time a patch of grass which has an unusual looking set of mushrooms growing on it (not toad stool like but flat to the floor, with loads of folds in it (?). Then it suddently dawned on me, when I do let my lovely girlies out to play, will they have the sense not to touch the mushrooms? What if they are poisonous? Thanks. Christine. Stevie
Not sure whether chooks will have the sense to avoid them, but these little fungi are due to decomposing matter underground-like dead tree roots or buried timber. I get them too when its damp and i just knock the head off with a broom so they dont spore everywhere.
Hen Watch
I've got clay soil and get lots of mushroomy type things. I generally stamp on them, but the chickens just don't touch them. They also don't eat my Ivy either. Rhododendrons I think are not supposed to be good, but I have seen my chickens take the odd bite then walk away. They are still around after 12 months to tell the tale. I wouldn't worry too much.
