twix
you ought to give both shell- eg. oyster shell is for their eggs whereas the grit is instead of teeth. they have a sack like our stomach called a crop and they collect grit here to grind their food. twix
however if they free range a lot and there is a lot of grit about it the ground you might find they don't seem interested in the grit you give them because they will fill themselves up on found grit as they range (as they would naturally) but it should be there to offer to them. and of course it doesn't go off or attract vermin so there's not really a down side.
