lesly Batcheler
My chooks are omlet bred one year old. Still laying 100% but all so featherless that they look oven ready. I am giving them spice as i assume they are moulting since all are wearing bits not to peck. not much sign of where do the shed feathers go? How long does it last if this is moult? . They are red mite treated and all seem happy. Get to free range a short while every day. Any advice on what is happening or is it all normal as I am hoping? Mrs Frugal
Have you checked them carefully for lice as they can cause feather loss? It's unusual for them to be moulting for so long . There's a good post about skin parasites here The other possibility is feather pulling. You say they're wearing bumper bits but do you have one well feathered hen? That's usually a good sign that you've got a feather puller.
