druids57
Hi Am going to order some bits from Omlet and wondered if both the D Earth and Red Mite powder they have for sale are for the same thing : and if so which people find is best Thanks a million Druid
Fur 'n' Feathers
We have both. We use Diatom in the dust bath (which they also eat!) and the Red Mite powder gets lightly sprinkled in the eglu base/edges. We take the view that the diatom is more prophylactic (and can be consumed) and the Red Mite Powder would be used as a dusting powder if they got red mite/other, but others may think differently. Egluntyne
They aren't the same Druid. DE is the fossilised skeletons of microscopic organisms. In addition to using it to prevent external parasites you can also add it to the hens feed to help prevent worms. Red mite powder is a cornstarch based product containing Tea Tree and Lavender oils to be used as an external preventative only for mites and lice. Smells divine!. Olly
I've got both, use the diatom on the roosting bars and the red-mite powder to dust the girls with occasionally. I've never had mites or lice, as far as I know, but it smells gorgeous!
