The hens were definitely v young and only at point of lay when we got them and I cannot understand why Penna stopped so suddenly when she was regularly laying enormous eggs.

 

The neighbours know they aren't laying so we aren't deceiving them!

Could they be laying elsewhere.? One or two forum members have found secret stashes of eggs, in odd places in their gardens with quite large numbers.

 

Have a hunt under bushes etc.

No, we have ruled that out because a lot of the time they stay in the run - we have an extension. So the few times they are let out into a fenced area I'm sure they aren't laying there!

You aren't going to give your neighbours your eglu too are you? Yeah i'll be they'll snap your hand off if you give them all the kit and they just get a couple of birds. You're just starting to get economically viable and you are giving up?

Hi everyone!

Just reporting that Penna started laying again about a month ago but Henna seems to have stopped permanently - very odd. She also doesn't perch at night but huddles in the nesting box - though otherwise she's heathly and eating well. Her feathers aren't in as good condition as Penna who is glossy.

Hi Merryn, I've just read this thread & it's given me hope! We only have 2 hens as well and at the moment neither are laying. Penny stopped laying when she broke her foot some weeks ago and Boris who laid faithfully every day is now only laying softies and the very occassional thin shelled egg.All a bit demoralising. Just like you I'm trying everything under the sun, every supplement known to man. Result Boris is the glossiest hen imaginable and poor Penny is moulting but still no "good" eggs Hoping things pick up soon. Allison x

I hope they do pick up, Allison. It can take WEEKS! I don't think we'll have any more eggs from Henna now but at least the size of Penna's make up for it!
