porkchop's Dad Posted April 29, 2008 Share Posted April 29, 2008 got 3 chickens on 22.4.08 - 2 have already laid one egg each. 28.4.08 HOWEVER! today we discovered one "egg" has been laid without a shell. "Softies" are quite common when they start laying - it can take them a while to get the hang of the whole thing. I wouldn't worry unless you get them regularly. Hen Watch Posted April 29, 2008 Share Posted April 29, 2008 When my lot lay soft shelled eggs, they very often eat the soft shell and all I find is the egg. Although sometimes they eat that too. The soft shells are paper thin and days later you may find bits of paperlike substance in the garden or in the poo tray. They may just be new and settling into egg laying.
