mrsm_jones
So...did anyone get anything at the rare breeds auction at Thainstone today? I only just managed to stop myself. Poor little things...kept in such tiny cages with no food / water for ages...I wanted to rescue them all!
jojo2305
Yes we did. As did our friends. Did you see the prices! Shame the prices in the other rings were ridiculously low for the sellers.
mrsm_jones
We only stayed for a short while of the bidding, but the prices didn't seem too bad. Less than we paid anyway! Go on then Jojo....what sort of new girlies did you buy? I had my eye on the lovely splash Orp, but she was going with a cockerel unfortunately, and a lovely grey Silkie towards the end. Such sweet little chicks too, but with no mummy and no heat lamps. Was under the impression they needed heat.
jojo2305
The prices got ridiculous for a while- £110 for a pair of White sussex and £85 for a single RIR hen . We took home three bargain Black Rock pullets. Friends bought some of the chicks, a pen of Marans, the silkie, a variety of ducks etc etc. I nearly bought ( but took a small car/crates on purpose) the £5 turkey at the very end and some leftover ducks- pen mislabelled as two drakes, actually a pair so unsold. Most pairs fetching £50 + Sadly I was so busy being outbid in the poultry section I missed the pony I wanted!
ali-s
Darn it I keep meaning to go and have a look when the Poultry auction is on. Must try harder to get there in the autum.
