Prolapsed vent - am I getting it right?

Have been out to the girls and Daisy is doing some lovely mustard colour poo. Is this normal and part of the settling down process? I've had them since Saturday. I've tried different treats but they seem content with layers pellets at the mo. Noticed that Rosie's was a bit runny too.

 

I presume at some point I'll be able to stop asking questions and worrying about every little thing? I suppose its all part of being a new chook mum

It's quite normal, Lisa. It's just their digestive system getting used to their new diets, I would imagine. You can mix a little natural bio yogurt into their layers pellets as that's good for calming a jippy tummy. Bokashi Bran is also very good for hen's tummies. So long as they aren't looking hunched up or withdrawn and are eating and drinking and behaving as you'd expect chickens to, they'll be fine and it should settle down in a few days.

Thanks Kate, again! You are certainly helping me out with these chooks. I'm trying not to worry about every little thing they do - just wanna be a good chook mum! They've ignored the broccoli I've put out for them. Will try the yogurt tommorrow and also get some bran.

 

Whilst I'm thinking when I clean the eglu out, can I sprinkle red mite powder over the bars? Also when do I start worming the girls? The person I bought them off said they hadn't been wormed.

Yes, you can sprinkle red mite powder on the bars and on the ends of them too where they fit into the Eglu. It won't hurt and it's a good precaution. I worm my hens every 6 months with Flubenvet but if you want to do it naturally, Verm-X can be mixed with their feed every 6 weeks, I think.
